What is preconception counselling?

Preconception counselling at Utsav Fertility Center generally includes risk assessment & screening for potential complications during pregnancy. During the counselling, the couple will attend sessions with our fertility experts to prepare for what comes next. It is recommended that couple planning for a child, should come in for the preconception counselling session 3-6 months before they begin to try to conceive. This gives couples the time to make whatever necessary lifestyle changes and allows the mum-to-be to prepare her body for a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby. It also develops both partners for the monumental responsibility that is parenthood.

What tests are involved in preconception counselling?

During the preconception screening, both partners are tested for: Infectious Diseases

• HIV
• HbsAg
• Hepatitis B& C
• Rubella IgM, IgG
• VDRL
• HCV

Routine Blood Studies

• RH Typing
• Complete Blood Count
• Hemoglopin to rule out Anaemia

Pelvic ultrasound scan and vaginal examination, detailing the precise situation of the uterus and ovaries, and presents couple a decent idea of whether the womb is strong and healthy adequate to host a baby within.

Semen analysis, done after 2 -3 days of abstinence, to estimate the male sperm's ability to fertilize an egg.

The hormonal assay test is done for both men and women, to test all the hormonal levels necessary for normal follicular stimulation, sperm production, implantation of the fertilized egg, to sustain the baby and induce labor. This is the most crucial set of tests and is done for women on the 2nd day of her ovulation cycle.
